Obituary for Alice R Marshall

Alice Marshall, 89 and long- time resident of Oak Park, Illinois, died peacefully on Monday March 6, 2017 surrounded by family and under Loyola, Brookdale-OP and Seasons hospice care.

Born in Ludlow MA on Dec 11, 1927, Alice was her high school class valedictorian and graduated from UMass-Amherst with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. She worked as a US Dept of Agriculture food inspector for two years before making her career moves to mother and eventually, become the matriarch of a large family. Alice volunteered decades of work for St Catherine of Siena-St Lucy Parish and 30 years at the Economy Shop on Grove Ave, as well. Her motto was "Shop Oak Park." Alice took up golf after her children were grown and won her fair share of trophies at the Oak Park Country Club.

Alice leaves a loving and supportive (and golfing) husband of 65 years, James Marshall, sister Florence Brannon and sisters-in-law Margaret (Otis) Signer and Mary (Howard) Shultis. She is also survived by five children, sons Tom and Jim (Kathi) Marshall and daughters Anne (Angel Kustief) and Fran Marshall, and Mary (Pete) Blanc; and by twelve grandchildren, Paula and Rosemary, Mike, Troy and Jeff (Eka Imerlishvili) Marshall, Erin Dobey, Lily and Jack Nikolas, Kaitlin (Randy) Porter, Lauren and Gen Blanc, and Allison (Luke) Burrier and their great granddaughters Penny and Maggie, and by many nieces and nephews and their families who visited often from both east and west coasts.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Paul and John (Pam) Marshall and by a sister Marion (Paul) Scholten.

Visitation: Wednesday, March 8 from 3 PM to 8 PM at the Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home in Oak Park IL at 203 S Marion St.

Funeral Mass: Thursday, March 9th 10:30 AM at St Catherine of Siena-St Lucy Parish in Oak Park IL at Austin Blvd & Washington Ave with Fr George Omwando presiding. A private burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
