Ann C. Calathas died on July 12, 2017 in Chicago following a brief illness. She was 95.
Ann was born on September 15, 1921 to Margaret and Nicholas Chulos. She had a brother, John and three sisters, Mary, Clara, and Edna who all preceded her in death. She had many nieces and nephews. Her father was a retail entrepreneur. Ann’s schooling was at Austin High School and she attended Wright Junior College. She met her husband, Nick Calathas in Chicago and first lived in Pensacola, Florida.
After her husband, also a Chicago retail entrepreneur, died in 1964, Ann went to work for the National Bank of Austin and later for the River Forest State Bank where she was hired as head trust officer. In this capacity, she counseled clients on trust and estate matters until she retired in 1988. Later she worked for the River Forest Public Library.
Ann enjoyed travel and music and had many friends. She was well-known to be generous with her time to help others, and she was a great listener who gave non-judgmental advice. Ann was always optimistic, with a strong commitment to family and community.
Ann was a devoted mother and is survived by her daughter, Joanne C. Schell (Frank). She was very fond of Cosmo, the West Highland White Terrier of Joanne and Frank.
