Obituary for Carol A. Proft

Carol A. Proft nee Heyer; beloved wife of Lawrence A. Proft; loving mother of Dan Proft, Jennifer (Patrick) Sullivan, and Huey (the family cat); proud grandmother of Matthew & Joseph Sullivan. Carol was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Lorraine Heyer, and her aunt; Sylvia Meyer. Carol was a homemaker in the literal sense of the word: she made a home by which is to say she made a place of love, safety and work for her family. Carol was an avid reader and instilled the passion for learning into both of her children. She was a supporter of public libraries and independent book stores. Carol was a 1961 graduate of Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park. She earned her BA in English at Northern Illinois University in 1965. Carol met Lawrence while they both attended NIU. They were married on April 29, 1967 and shared 47 beautiful years of marriage together. Carol's two favorite places on earth were Hawaii and Nordstrom (particularly when there was a sale). In lieu of flowers, please consider being a homemaker of your own by: taking in a stray from ADOPT Naperville http://www.adoptpetshelter.org/; providing children in need with new books at http://www.firstbook.org/ to spark their love of learning; and, while you're doing some good for others, treat yourself to a bauble of some sort at Nordstrom. Carol deserved it. So do you. Visitation Wednesday August 27, 2014, 3 to 8 p.m. at the Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. Friends and family will meet at St. Daniel the Prophet Church, 101 W. Loop Dr., Wheaton, IL, on Thursday for Mass at 10 a.m. Private interment St. Michael Cemetery, Wheaton, IL.
