Charles E. Barr, age 91, of Oak Park, formerly of Bellevue, Ohio, veteran U.S. Army; beloved husband of the late Evelyn nee Jennings; loving father of Patricia (Richard) Schreiber and Margaret Barr; cherished grandpa of Richard C. Schreiber III; fond brother of the late James (the late Louise) Barr and the late Robert (the late Lurline) Barr; fond uncle and great-uncle and friend of many, devoted son of the late Harry and Julia nee Lloyd Barr.
Charles fought in the Battle of the Bulge was wounded and taken prisoner in a German POW camp, and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war Charles became a master craftsman in sheet metal and worked on some of the historical homes and buildings in Oak Park, including some of the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings.
Visitation Wednesday, August 23rd, 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral at 11 a.m., at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., Oak Park. Interment Mt. Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst. Donations to Shriners Children’s Hospital (shrinershospitalsforchildren.org) or Salvation Army (centralusa.salvationarmy.org) or Disabled American Veterans Charity (dav.org) are appreciated.
