Obituary for Dean Rogers

A. Dean Rogers, Sr., age 78, of River Forest, IL passed away November 25th 2013 peacefully at home. Beloved husband of Shirley (Holmes) Rogers for 59 years, he was born in Blue Earth County, MN. The Rogers family moved to Illinois, where he attended Julia Ward Howe Elementary School and graduated from Austin High School with the Class of 1953. An Oak Park resident of 46 years, he moved to River Forest in 2005. He was preceeded in passing by his parents, Gladys and Floyd Rogers of Oak Park and his older brother, Charles Bolin. Survived by his wife Shirley, sister Iva (Mark) Goldman of Hilo, HI, and brothers, Jim Rogers of Grand Junction, CO and Richard (Sylvia) Rogers of River Forest. Devoted father of A. Dean (Kathy Kelleher) Rogers Jr of Oak Park, Susan (Robert) Davy of Lisle, Ronald Rogers of River Forest, and Robert (Mary Carroll) Rogers of Riverside. Cherished grandfather of 19 grandchildren and great-granchildren; Robert (Ashley), Daniel (Leslie), Brooke (Tim), Dustin, Brynn, RJ (Meghan), Brian, Maggie, Dean, Megan, Kevin, Nora, Riley, Tanner, Griffin, Callie, Brody, Holden and Dylan. Fond uncle to his seven nieces and nephews, Robin Black, Liat Bearden, Sarah Goldman, Martha Kenne, Mari Graner, Philip Bolin, and Sean Rogers. A man of faith, he was an Elder of Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church in Oak Park where he served in many activities including Building and Grounds, Youth Ministry mission trips, Senior High Leader, and Westminster Woods Church Camp in Saugatuck MI. In his professional life Dean started with IBEW Local #134 in 1956, and was named Apprentice of the Year in 1960. He worked for Ewald Electric and Robinson Furnace before founding Midwest American Electrical Contractors of Oak Park. After retiring in 1997, he was active with many charitible projects in the OPRF area up until 2011. Always quick to assist, he touched the lives of many in service. In the 1960's he assisted Holmes School Cub Scouts, Boy Scout Troop 16 and coached Oak Park Youth Baseball. In 2006 he was bestowed the Golden Hammer Award from the Oak Park River Forest Infant Welfare Society. His unfailing encouragement, stories and laughter touched the lives of his family, church and many in the community . He loved travelling the roadways of the Midwest, woodworking, hunting in Wyoming, fishing in Canada, and assisting on the farm in Minnesota. He will be missed by all who knew him.
