Obituary for Edith L Ewert

Edith Louise Ewert, age 95, longtime resident of Oak Park and River Forest passed away on April 5, 2016. She was born on June 9, 1920 (the year women achieved the right to vote) in Chicago to Henry August and Bertha Dorthea (Waterstrat) Jacobs. Mrs. Ewert was a life-long Lutheran, family genealogist, and world traveler. She founded a family real estate company rehabilitating and operating vintage apartment buildings and was one of the first people to convert apartments to condominiums in Oak Park. She was active with the Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest, the 19th Century Women's Club, Friends of the River Forest Library, and the Forest Park Seniors. Her interest in family history led to an initiative with the Newberry Library to microfilm original Lutheran church and cemetery records in Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Ewert. She is survived by her children John, Thomas (Grace), Laurel (Dennis) McMahon, and Paul (Carol) and her grandchildren Matthew (Tasha) Ewert, Mark (Danielle Donates) Ewert, Claire McMahon, A. Fiona (Joshua St. Cyr) McMahon, Christopher, Daniel, Thomas, Kevin, and Sarah Ewert. Memorials may be made to the Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest, P.O. Box 771., Oak Park, IL 60303-0771 or Grace Lutheran Church, 7300 Division St., River Forest, IL 60305
