After a long life and a happy celebration of her 92nd birthday, Ellen Andersen passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, October 8 at The Danish Home of Chicago, her nursing home residence for the last 3 years.
Before this she had lived for sixty-plus years in Oak Park, from 1950 to 2014. A proud Danish-American of immigrant parents, she was a native of Chicago. She was married for many years to Donald Mose of Oak Park, president of the Oak Park Public Library, a businessman and collector of books and art. Early on as a classical singer, Ellen was proud to sing alto in the very first seasons of the Chicago Symphony Chorus, under Margaret Hillis and Fritz Reiner.
Ellen’s civic activities in her community were many, her love of life never in question. She was fun to be around, right to the end. She leaves two children to mourn, Lisa Mose of Carol Stream (Fabrizio) and Peter Mose of Toronto, ON (Simone), and several beloved nieces and nephews. They were all lucky to have her for so many years.
There will be a memorial visitation at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion Street, Oak Park on Sunday, October 15, 2 to 6 p.m. Memorial service at The Danish Home, 5656 N. Newcastle Ave., Chicago, on Thursday, October 19 at 2 p.m.
