Obituary for Ghislaine Paul

Marie Ghislaine Paul, 68, long time resident of Oak Park, died on Sept.15, 2018 at Rush Oak Park Hospital due to complications with stomach Cancer. Ghislaine, the name she was affectionately known by fought a great fight as she went into cardiac arrest while having been surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on July 7,1950, she migrated to America in September of 1983 and settled in Oak Park where she worked as a Housekeeper and lived for the remainder of her adult life. A woman of great faith in the Lord, pride in her Haitian Culture, and an abundance of love and commitment to family. She was a very generous, loving, and caring person to all. Ghislaine took great pride in being a single mother of five children, all of which who were O.P.R.F. High School graduates. Elsie Paul, class of 1987, Beatrice Baptiste, class of 1991, Emmanuel Baptiste, class of 1995, Gregory Baptiste, class of 1999, and James Baptiste, class of 2006.

Throughout her life and time living in the Oak Park community, Ghislaine was a faithful member of the Ascension Parish, St. Bernardine Church, and St. Edmund Parish where she would often be seen front and center with her beloved sister Yvette Durand and best friend Luthan Haider. She loved traveling to many places in the U.S. and abroad. In particular, and dear to her heart was her first trip to Paris. She will be remembered for her upbeat personality, delicious Haitian dishes, her love for dancing, welcoming friendship, and a unwavering strength and determination to provide a better life with boundless opportunities for her kids and grandkids, Destiny, Imani, Fatima, Anthony, Marc, Christian, Adrianna, Garrison, Kaleb, and Roman. Her loving smile and nurturing heart will be missed by all.

Loving mother of Elsie Paul, Beatrice Baptiste, Emmanuel Baptiste, Gregory (Andrea) Baptiste, and James Baptiste; cherished grandmother of Destiny, Imani, Fatima, Anthony, Marc, Christian, Adrianna, Garrison, Kaleb, and Roman; beloved sister of Yvette Durand, the late Jacques Paul, and the late Reynold (Bernadette) Durand; aunt of many nieces and nephews; fond cousin and friend of many.
