Obituary for Graeme K. Carnegie

Graeme was born in Guildford, England March 15th, 1974 to Kenneth J. Carnegie and Gillian E. Carnegie as the first of two children. He grew up in Aberdeen, Scotland, with his parents, sister, Rachael, his grandparents Betty & Nicol Carnegie and his Auntie, Hazel. At the age of nine he moved with his parents and sister to Oundle, England where he attended school to the age of eighteen. He then attended Swansea University in Wales, to graduate in 1996 with a degree in biochemistry. He went on to obtain a PhD in biochemistry from Dundee University, Scotland in 2002. In 2001, he moved to Portland Oregon, to pursue his career in medical research. There he met his wife Andrea and they enjoyed and embraced the culture in Portland. Graeme could often be found surfing, snowboarding, playing soccer & tennis and following his most favorite of all passions, playing the drums in local bands. In 2009, Graeme accepted an Assistant Professor position in University of Illinois at Chicago's College of Medicine. Graeme and Andrea moved to Oak Park and welcomed there first daughter Niamh in June 2011, shortly followed by their second daughter Ava in October of 2012. Throughout his life, Graeme has positively touched the lives of so many people. He was a kind and loving father, devoted husband and friend, beloved son and brother and an all-around incredible human being. The world is a far better place for having had him in it. Visitation Thursday July 24, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., Oak Park. Prayers 9:15 A.M., Friday July 25 at the funeral home, followed by a procession to St. Giles Church, 1045 Columbian Ave., Oak Park, for mass at 10 A.M. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Make-A-Wish Foundation or Medical Missionaries of Mary are appreciated.
