Hannah R. Mathias (Aren), age 64, of River Grove, formerly of Oak Park and River Forest passed away suddenly on November 25, 2020. She was the beloved wife of Jack D. Mathias for 43 years; loving mother of Dan (Lavette) and Laura (Gavin) Reeves; cherished grandma of Madeline, Stella and Myles; dear sister of Debbie Hopper; fond aunt of Ericka (Zach) Adams, David (Brooke) and Randy Hopper; devoted daughter of the late Edward and Regina Aren. Hannah graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School in 1973, received her Bachelor’s in Liberal Arts from Judson University in Elgin, IL and later pursued her passion and earned a Nursing degree from Concordia University in River Forest. She was a dedicated nurse for over 30 years, 23 of which she spent caring for her patients at the Marjorie Weinberg Cancer Center (Gottlieb/Loyola) as if they were her own family and friends. She provided compassion and care to all those she touched and healed with her humor. Her smile was infectious. Hannah was full of energy and light and was enthusiastic about fitness. She loved her garden, the beauty of nature and all four-legged companions especially her rescue dogs Logan and Loki. Hannah formed lifelong-lasting relationships with her friends that spanned decades. She was selfless and kindhearted. To know her was to love her.
Due to COVID-19, a memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Marjorie Weinberg Cancer Center or Magnificent Mutts & Meows Rescue.
