Obituary for Iris Louise Cooke

Iris Louise Cooke, age 87, of Oak Park passed away on October 11, 2013 at the Berkely Nursing Center in Oak Park. Ms. Cooke was born on October 22, 1925 in Little London, Westmoreland, Jamaica. She was educated in Little London and graduated from the Leon's Beauty Academy in Kingston, Jamaica. There she owned and operated her own beauty salon. In 1967 she came to the United States enrolled in nursing school and later became a Certified Nursing Assistant. In 1977 she moved to Oak Park and began working for Oak Park Hospital as a C.N.A., her last duties there were in Central Supply before her retirement in 1991. Ms. Cooke is survived by her son Barrington and his wife Eugenia of Oak Park, her grandchildren; Brian (wife Treece), Mark, Michael, Dwight, Nicole and Tyrone, and her great-grandchildren Brielle, Zachariah, Truj and Josiah. She is also survived by her brother Hugh. She was preceded in death by her sister Thelma. Ms. Cooke was the loving aunt of Norman, Marjorie, Dervin, Denzil, Sharon, Anthony, Leonard, Hopeton, Andrew and many other nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many cousins, and a host of friends including her special friends Mavis, Pastor Junior Dillon and wife Kathleen. She is also survived by the family of Brenda Rashford Silvera, the matriarch of the family. A visitation will be held on Saturday October 26 from 11 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m. at Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church, 405 S. Euclid Ave., (at Washington Blvd.) in Oak Park. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in Hillside, IL.
