John Patrick “Jack” Hughes, age 79, River Forest native; Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Sue Hughes. He was the beloved father of Mardie (Dale) Anderson, John (Marian) Hughes and the late Alicia Hughes, as well as a cherished father figure to Michael McMahon. He was the adoring, fun-loving grandfather of Edie and Becky Anderson; Caroline, Allison and Jack Hughes; Andrew, Audrey and Cate Yaus; and June and Helen McMahon. Dear son of the late John Patrick and Elise (nee Powers) Hughes and dearest brother of Mary (Harold “Bud”) Enright, Jerry Hughes, Nancy (Michael) Murakami, and the late Gene Hughes. Fond uncle, godfather, and loyal friend of many.
Jack Hughes had a life that is impossible to adequately describe. He was notorious for his irrepressible sense of humor and elaborate pranks, but even more famous for the incredible amount of generosity, love and support he gave to an astounding number of people throughout his life. He treasured his family and wide circle of friends and his generous spirit lifted people through hardships, supported those who were down on their luck, and put smiles on the faces of all that knew him. Jack was a one of a kind class act and will never be forgotten.
