Jiageng “John” Xu, M.D., passed away on June 30, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Samantha Brown-Xu; loving father of Mabel Rose Xu and devoted son of “Steve” Shaogang Xu and “Nancy” Yueping Qi.
John was born in Harbin, China on May 1, 1987. He moved to Toledo, Ohio at the age of three, and in 1999 moved to Beavercreek, Ohio where he met his future wife, Samantha. John attended The Ohio State University for both undergraduate and medical school, receiving his B.S. in 2009 and his M.D. in 2013. During medical school, John and Samantha finally made it official and got married on July 3, 2011.
John completed a transitional year of residency in Columbus, Ohio before becoming an anesthesia resident at Rush University Medical Center in 2015. John and Samantha welcomed their beautiful baby girl Mabel Rose to the world on November 11, 2016. He was a proud parent and a doting father. John graduated residency in 2018 and began a fellowship in pain medicine at Rush University Medical Center.
John enjoyed quiet nights at home with family, gathering friends together, fishing, bike riding and scuba diving. John’s joy for life was undeniable; his care for others was without measure. He will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.
Visitation 10:30 a.m. until time of Service 1 p.m., Saturday July 7 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., Oak Park. Private interment Concordia Cemetery, Forest Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago are appreciated.
