Obituary for John J. D'Asaro

John Joseph D'Asaro, an Oak Park and River Forest resident for 55 years, passed away at Elmhurst Hospital on January 14, 2015 after an extended illness. Jack, as he was known to many, was a great listener and a man of measured words, and was devoted to family as husband, father, grandfather and brother.Jack was born on May 16, 1936 in Forest Park, Illinois to Joseph Anthony D'Asaro and Cynthia Damiani. He attended Proviso West High School and the University of Illinois, where he earned a degree before joining the accounting firm Ernst and Ernst and becoming a member of the Illinois Society of CPAs in 1961. He spent his entire career at Ernst, through corporate changes that saw him as a Manager at Ernst and Whiney and again at Ernst and Young, from where he retired. He was a member of the Chicago Society of Association Executives. In addition to his acumen for numbers and accounting, he enjoyed a life long connection to community and to the performing arts, and wore many hats as a volunteer. Behind the scenes, in 1969 he founded the Concert Tour Association (CTA) to help offset the costs of the 60-student-large OPRFHS annual orchestra trip. He also served as Treasurer for the OPRF Symphony. Onstage, he lent his talents to several productions for the Oak Park Musical Theatre, including a star turn as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. He loved golf and was a dedicated Chicago sports teams fan, who preferred the Cubs over the White Sox, and was a huge fan of the Fighting Illini. He was the beloved husband of Barbara D'Asaro, who preceded him in death, loving father of James (Rebecca) D'Asaro of Woodland Hills, CA, John (Cindy) D'Asaro of Downingtown, PA, Cathy (Randy) McBeath of North Ogden, UT, Martha (Mike) Bowman of Grand Rapids, MI and Diane (John) Kitzman of Dallas, TX; brother of Thomas D'Asaro of Oak Park, IL; grandfather to John Kitzman, Jonathan, Rachel, Josiah and Andrew D'Asaro, Emily Bowman and Sarah (Erich) Peterson; and great grandfather to Amelia Bowman. At his request there will not be a funeral or memorial service.
