Obituary for Joseph Christopher Parrilli

Joseph Christopher Parrilli (66) formerly of Oak Park died December 30, 2020, son of Christopher F Parrilli and Carol G Duff , brother to Daniel J Parrilli, Michael B Parrilli, Elise P Tognocchi, Allegra G French.

Joseph…to family he was JoJo. Born January 24, 1954, Joe was always positive and always of earthy humor…in spite of the difficulties that he encountered throughout his life.

He passed December 30, 2020, a victim of the current scourge afflicting the world. Despite contracting spinal meningitis in the 1st grade, having a cerebral hemorrhage at age 24 (soon after the picture here) and then also suffering a serious blood infection following hip surgery…all of which would have killed most, Joe maintained a remarkable mental attitude that was revered by all that knew him. His last 40+ years were spent in a nursing/rehabilitation home that for most, would be a somber place with a great many residents resentful from the late in life maladies that destroyed their quality of life. Joe, on the other hand, remained a positive force that helped many through those difficult times, and was likewise a source of strength for staff serving the residents.

Strong in his faith, Joe was a model of how to love life, regardless of the obstacles or barriers that are encountered. It took little to satisfy Joe’s needs… visits from family members always appreciated with exuberant reactions, and of course his penchant for conquering various forms of word games and puzzles. Joe will be missed certainly by his siblings, Dan, Michael, Elise and Allegra. But he will also be missed by the residents and friends he accumulated over the years at the nursing home, and the many he encountered through his church affiliation and vocational workplace. He is now at peace in his new Heavenly Home, whole in body for the first time in over 40 years.

Joe, as your siblings, we are proud of what you have accomplished in your life, and we will always be proud to call you our brother. With all of our love.

A celebration of life will be held this summer (date tbd). In lieu of flowers please send donations to
