Marianne B. Tagler nee Schmidt, age 83, of Oak Park and River Forest; beloved wife of the late Robert “Bob” Tagler; loving mother of Mary (Mike Nelis) Tagler; dear sister of Alan (Maureen) and the late John (Donna) Schmidt; fond sister-in-law of Pat (Marge) Tagler; aunt and great-aunt of many. Marianne graduated from Visitation High School in Chicago in 1956 and was a former long-time member of the West Suburban Hospital Auxiliary. Visitation Tuesday June 1 from 9 a.m. until time of prayers 10:15 a.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., Oak Park. Procession to St. Giles Church for Mass at 11 a.m. Private interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or Felines and Canines (felinescanines.org) are appreciated.
Marianne was the second child of John and Mary Schmidt and was born and raised on Chicago’s southside. Marianne forged many strong relationships that lasted a lifetime, including her circle of friends from Visitation. After school Marianne went on to become an X-Ray technician working at several hospitals in the Chicago area, including Columbus Hospital where her daughter was born.
Marianne met her husband, Bob, at the graduation party of a friend’s daughter. While seemingly very different, they were well matched and totally crazy for one another. They married on May 17, 1974 and adopted their daughter two years later. Marianne was a devoted parent - a room mother, troop leader, booster and all-around champion of her daughter’s activities and interests.
She will be remembered as a lover of books, crosswords, football, history, cats, a fantastic cook and loving mother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was fiercely loyal and protective of those closest to her.
