Obituary for Marion C. Pieritz

Marion (Clifford) Pieritz, 98, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2015 after a long, fulfilling life. She was born and raised in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. She attended Our Lady Help of Christians Grade School, St. Mary's High School, Chicago Teacher's College South, and earned a master's degree from Loyola University. She was a school librarian and an adjustment counselor for the Chicago Public Schools, having written an early handbook for adjustment counseling. She grew up around the corner from the original location of Pieritz Bros. Office Supplies (now of Oak Park), where she met Alvin Pieritz, who became her husband of 57 years and preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (John) Roberts and Deborah (Mary Eisenlohr) Pieritz; her two granddaughters, Jamie and Madeline Roberts; her nieces, Mary Walsh and Eileen Howard; and her goddaughter Mary Foster. She was an active leader in the many groups she belonged to, including her two parishes, St. Angela and St. Vincent Ferrer, the board of her condo of 36 years in River Forest, Book Friends, and Holley Court where she was a founding member of the Jack Daniel's Society - Oak Park Chapter. She loved her family and her church and her friends. She loved Marshall Field's and Elizabeth Arden and the Cubs. She loved her life. She donated her remains to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois. A service will be held at the Scottish Home (which took such great care of her for the past six years) at a future date. Memorials to: The Scottish Home, 2800 South DesPlaines Ave., North Riverside, IL 60546 are appreciated, even though she was Irish.
