Obituary for Marjorie F. Downey

Marjorie F. Downey, nee Biggs, age 91. Beloved wife of Burns P. Downey; loving mother of Zannetta (the late John) Todoric, Glenn, and the late Rebecca (Tony) Kinert; devoted grandmother of Paul (Mary) Todoric and Daun (John) Dertinger, Michael Kinert, Aimee (Mark) Jepsen, Kellie Kinert, and Kevin Kinert; proud great grandmother of Kara Todoric, Brian Todoric, Matthew Jepsen, Kaitlyn Jepsen and Annaka Jepsen.

Born in Southern Illinois Marjorie was the youngest of 7 children born to Henry and Estelle Biggs, nee Baker. Estelle passed away shortly after she was born and she was raised by her uncle Earl Biggs in Chicago. Marjorie graduated from Austin High School in Chicago in 1942. She enjoyed playing in the school band. She was set to enter Nurses training but with WWII getting more intense it made many young people change their plans. She had been dating Burns Downey for some time and they were planning to get married after the war. Changing their plans, they decided to get married and on January 9th, 1943 they were married in Topeka, KS. All was quite challenging for the next four years living in different homes and bases. After the war everything fell into place and they settled in Oak Park.

Marjorie belonged to many clubs and volunteered at West Suburban Hospital for years. She was a life member of PEO and always had time to enjoy her family. She will be missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at River Forest United Methodist Church at 7970 W. Lake St., River Forest, at 11 AM on Saturday, April 16th. Interment private. In lieu of flowers donations to Peace Hospice or charity of your choice are appreciated.
