Obituary for Mary Grace Taaffe

Mary Grace Taaffe, 52, of Chicago, IL, formerly of Glenview, IL, died peacefully on November 25th. Mary Grace enjoyed life to the fullest, giving a friendly hello and joking with everyone she met. She blessed us all with her love, sense of humor, courage, and determination. She liked to make you feel special by intentionally mispronouncing your name and occasionally invading your personal space.

She loved pop, wrist watches, The Brady Bunch, and men in uniform.

Mary Grace was a resident of St Mary of Providence for over 45 years. The Sisters and staff loved her as their own, and coming home to them was her favorite part of any time away. She would attend summer camp at Mount Saint Joseph, where she enjoyed swimming and showing off her bike riding skills by cruising through the Sisters' private quarters.

Mary Grace was the life of the party with a somewhat questionable work ethic. She loved celebrating her birthday and enjoyed spending time with her many nieces and nephews.

She participated in the Special Olympics, and enjoyed coming in last to prolong the cheers of spectators calling out her name.

Mary Grace received her First Holy Communion and Confirmation in the Catholic Church.

Mary Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Marilyn (Hanrahan) Taaffe and Joseph M. Taaffe, Jr.

She is survived by her siblings, J. Matthew (Lisa) Taaffe, Mark (Kathleen Galvin) Taaffe, Maura Taaffe, Terence Taaffe, Denise (Robert) Hannigan, John Taaffe, Annette (Christopher) Eames, Peter Taaffe, and Diane (Brian) Mark.

Mary Grace happily counted every Sister, staff member, and resident of St. Mary of Providence as a lifelong friend. The family would like to thank them for their devotion to Mary Grace, and in particular to Sr. Mercy Sencida. Sr. Mercy's loving care and protection of Mary Grace brought comfort to all of us.

Mary Grace’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. on Saturday December 3, 2016 at the Ascension Catholic Church, 808 East Avenue, Oak Park, IL.

Friends will be received on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion Street, Oak Park, IL.

Interment to follow services at Queen of Heaven Cemetery 1400 South Wolf Road, Hillside, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary of Providence, 4200 N. Austin Avenue, Chicago, IL 60634.
