Nellie Baldwin Schultz passed away on Wednesday January 18th from ovarian cancer in the company of her son and daughter.
Nellie was raised in Ashtabula, OH along with two brothers and three sisters. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Kent State University. Shortly afterward she spent two years teaching in Seoul Korea and touring Southeast Asia.
While in Korea, Nellie met Daniel Harold Schultz and they returned to the US. Daniel and Nellie were married in Ashtabula, OH on August 14th, 1972. They settled in Oak Park, IL and had two children: Daniel Todd and Aimee Elizabeth. Nellie and Daniel were married for 32 years and divorced in 2004.
Nellie’s entire life was centered on the value of education. A long-time elementary school teacher, she retired in 2008 but continued tutoring and substitute teaching. Nellie invented her own games and other tutoring aides, customizing her approach to each child.

Nellie returned to school in her mid 50s and received her master’s degree in adult education from Northeastern Illinois University. She spent the final years of her life taking woodcarving classes, learning to play the piano, and learning to operate a ham radio. Throughout her life, Nellie enjoyed gardening, sailing, camping, playing softball, bike riding, and spending many a sunny afternoon at Wrigley Field watching her beloved Cubs.
Nellie will be remembered for her positive attitude, resourcefulness, creativity, zest for life, and strong faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Nellie was a member of Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park for 20 years.
Nellie is survived by her two children, Todd Schultz and Aimee Feuser; her beloved granddaughters, Etta Schultz and Madeline Feuser; her brothers James and John; and her sisters Joyce, Norma, and Marie.
Visitation services will be held at the funeral home of Drechsler, Brown & Williams on January 27th from 4-7 in the afternoon.
A memorial service will take place at Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park on January 28th at 10:30 am, preceded by an additional visitation at 9:30 am.
