Obituary for Peter J.Traczyk

Peter J. Traczyk, loving father and husband, passed away Saturday February 7, 2015. He was born in Windsor, CT, on June 29, 1966 to Richard and Germaine Traczyk. He graduated from high school and earned a BA from the University of Wisconsin. He was employed as a certified financial planner with Voya Financial Advisors. After marrying Cindy Friess in November 1994, Peter and Cindy moved to Oak Park in 1997, where their three children attend school. Peter was an avid shutterbug, capturing everyday and special moments of life. He loved outdoor activities including boating, fishing, and ATVing. He was also a talented tinkerer who enjoyed working with his hands, doing carpentry, and playing with the latest gadgets. These skills, and his bottomless generosity, made him the go to fix-it guy for friends and neighbors, (some of whom kept his favorite beer stocked, as thanks for his handiwork). And countless neighbors relied on Peter and his trusty snow-blower to clear the winter snow and ice from their sidewalks, driveways and alleys. Peter was as happy cuddling on the couch for Saturday morning cartoons with his children as exploring new adventures and the world with them. He loved books, movies and music, and delighted in sharing those passions with his children. He had a great sense of humor, and he laughed often, loud and long; a sound that will echo forever in the ears and hearts of his loved ones. Peter was a remarkable citizen and leader of Oak Park. He began his service on the PTO of Beye School, serving as its co-president. Peter was elected to the District 97 school board beginning in 2007, serving one term as President, and leading the successful drive to pass the district's referendum. He was also a fixture at school and community events, and on the ball fields of Oak Park, where, with great cheer, he coached his (and so many others') children in softball, T-ball, and soccer. He is survived by his wife Cindy, his sons Gilbert and Zachary, daughter Helen (Ellie), his siblings David & wife Linda of VT, Janice and husband Phil, Christine, Julie, Amy and husband Jeb of CT; his in-laws Judy and Herman Friess of WI, Gregory & Michelle Friess of MN, Lisa and Jeffrey Alder of NJ, Jane Friess of IL and several nieces and nephews. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday February 13, from 3 P.M. to 9 P.M. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams 203 South Marion St., Oak Park. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday February 14, 2015 at 2 P.M. at United Lutheran Church 409 Greenfield St. Oak Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Oak Park Education Foundation, 970 Madison Street, Oak Park, IL 60302.
