Obituary for Renee F Buecker

Renee F. Buecker, nee Frankel, age 88, of Chicago, a former 56 year resident of Oak Park passed away on May 21, 2017 at home in Chicago. Renee was born in Frankfurt, Germany on January 25, 1929 to the late Wolf and Blanka Frankel. At the age of 7 her family immigrated to the Hyde Park area of Chicago. She graduated from Hyde Park High School and the University of Illinois, Champaign. She worked as a copy writer for Sears Roebuck in Chicago where she met her husband Robert. E. Buecker. They were married in St. Louis, MO in 1952. Returning to Chicago they settled on the North Side. They moved to Oak Park in 1957. While raising her daughters, Renee began teaching 1st grade at Paderewski School in the Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago. Returning to school she began a career in computer programming where she remained until 1990. Before and after retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively around the world. She was a volunteer at the Chicago Lighthouse and the Field Museum of National History in Chicago. She was a lifelong liberal and supported many progressive causes. Another passion was music and she was devoted to music of Johann Strauss and John Philip Sousa. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Robert E. Buecker who passed away on November 28, 2009. She is survived by her daughters: Janet (Ronald Martin) Buecker of Waltham, MA and Ellen Buecker (Jerry) Kott of Rochester, MI. She was the cherished grandmother of Megan (Justin DeVine), Hillary (Nick) Marshall and Erin (William Pearce) Kott; great-grandmother of Charlotte and Jack Marshall; dear sister of Ursula (Edward) Wittert; fond aunt of Bill (Donna) Wittert, Barbara (Keith) Apgar and Susan (David) Kern. Memorial visitation Wednesday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., Oak Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (jdrf.org) or the American Civil Liberties Union (aclu.org/Donate) are appreciated.
