Obituary for Richard E. Akin

Richard Ellis Akin, age 67, longtime resident of Oak Park, passed away March 12, 2013 at Rush University Medical Center. He was born on August 21, 1945 in Pueblo, CO to Ellis and Esther Akin. He was raised in Overland Park, KS where he was a graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School. He received a BS degree from Principia College and also a Masters of Commerce from the University of Illinois. Mr. Akin was a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army retiring in 1973 after 3 years of service. He was a senior vice president at LaSalle National Bank/ABN AMRO until his retirement in 2008. He was an avid traveler, home chef, biker and skier and was a member of the Lake Shore Ski Club. He was also a member of the Metropolitan Club and served on the Oak Park Library Board and the First Church of Christ Scientist Board. Richard Ellis Akin touched the lives of many. His kindness, generosity, and sense of humor will not be forgotten. His stubborn determination and vitality served him well in a house full of daughters who loved, respected, and will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife Patricia Anne of Oak Park, his daughters Heather, Lili, and Andrea. He is also survived by his brothers Ronald (married to Tanya and parents of Wesley) of Overland Park, KS and Robert (married to Bobbie and parents of Tara and Travis) of San Diego, CA. All services were private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to www.salvationarmyusa.org are appreciated.
