Rita Louise Behrenbruch, nee Kavanaugh, 74, of Oak Park passed away on January 13, 2020.
Rita’s life was devoted to her family and educating and caring for those around her. She had a wide range of skill sets that she used to help others.
Rita graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 1968. She began her life after college as social worker in East St. Louis helping children who were in need of social services. She then became a high school English teacher in Missouri and New Jersey. In 1975, Rita successfully pursued a nursing degree and then performed nursing services at Loretto Hospital and Rush Presbyterian Hospital. After she had accumulated many on the job experiences she started a program to instruct nurse’s aides.
In 1987, Rita decided to put her love of learning and books to use in a different capacity. She worked as a librarian in the Oak Park Library System at Dole Branch Library for around 10 years.
In 1999, Rita focused her efforts back to educating young students. Until the time of her passing she was a tutor for elementary school students at Huntington Learning Center. She took great joy when working with students to improve in their studies. She knew the efforts they put in would prepare them for the future.
She cherished spending time with her husband and toured various exciting tourist destinations on five continents throughout their 43 years of marriage.
She poured her love and attention into her daughter Shawn (Bob) Deutschman as well as her grandsons Matthew and Luke.
