Obituary for Robert J. Jansto

Robert John Jansto, age 72, passed away peacefully June 14th. He is remembered, and his life celebrated by many. He is the dear brother of Carol Wootton; caring uncle of Anne (Teddy Rankin-Parker) Wootton, Sam and Nathaniel Wootton; great-uncle of Elio Parker; devoted son of the late John and Ann Jansto; dear cousin of many. Bob is also survived by his brother-in-law Robert Wootton.

Bob grew up on the Southwest side of Chicago, and was a graduate of Spaulding High School. A lifelong fan of the White Sox, he spent countless summer evenings at nearby Ashburn Park, honing his own skills with a bat and ball. Bob was a long-time member of Ashburn Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed. He was also one of the early participants at the Sertoma Centre where he worked for 33 years. He spent 11 happy years at Bjorklund House in Oak Forest, IL where he made many loving friends. In these past years, Bob resided at the Lieberman Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Skokie. He graced -- and was graced by -- the many who helped in his care.

Bob was always at home when surrounded by his extensive vinyl collection. He freely shared with those lucky enough to know him his knowledge of country music from the 50s and 60s. The deep wellspring of his knowledge seemed endless at times, with trivia from old musical acts or little-known lyrics slipping from his lips as if they were common knowledge. He could often be found diligently working on his latest drawing, colored-pencil in hand, Johnny Cash playing on the turntable. In unguarded moments, his impish grin and infectious giggle brought undiluted joy to all around him.

Visitation Thursday June 17 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St, Oak Park. Funeral Service 10 a.m. Friday June 18 at Grace Lutheran Church, 7300 Division St., River Forest. Private interment Bohemian National Cemetery, Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to Covenant Ability Network Illinois (covabilityil.org) are appreciated.
