Obituary for Robert W. Hamilton Ph.D.

Robert Wilson Hamilton, Ph.D., age 80 of Forest Park, formerly of Wheeling, IL and Davenport, IA; loving father of Torri (Matthew Hobbs) Hamilton, Angie (Ben Zlotucha) Hamilton, Amanda (Daniel) Schmidt and Jenna (Frank) Quatraro; silly and fun grandpa to Charlie and Emlyn Zlotucha, Sophia, Samantha and Maxwell Schmidt, and Libby and Maisy Quatraro; dear brother of the late Thomas (Gayle) Hamilton; fond uncle of Sheila and Thomas Hamilton, Jr.; devoted son of the late Burley “Joe” and Adrienne Vera Hartley Hamilton; Bob is also survived by his other “brother,” cousin, Jack (Carole) Hamilton. Bob was a professor of biology and entomology (insects) at Loyola University Chicago for 43 years before retiring in 2012. Bob the “Bugman” Hamilton loved insects his whole life (he feared no weevil!), and he discovered several new weevil species that he named after his four daughters. Bob loved to sing and play guitar and would never turn down an opportunity to play for anyone lucky enough to listen to his pitch perfect tenor. He was a multi-sport athlete and a member of 1958 State championship basketball team at Davenport Central High School. He was a lifetime scrabble and card player. Bob loved things neat and tidy. He had a great whistle. Bob could jitterbug and dance the waltz, and he loved to do both with his daughters. He played a mean game of darts and he enjoyed having beers with his Evanston buddies. He would color with his grandkids for as long as they were content to color. He looked forward to carving pumpkins, decorating Easter eggs, and making turkey notes. He was an avid fan of College Basketball, specifically the Ramblers. He was a champion for the environment. He has missed his own Mom, Dad, and brother terribly since they left this world. Most of all, Bob loved his daughters and he was enormously proud of them. They will miss his laugh, smile, and his voice more than he could have known. Visitation Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., Oak Park. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at LaSalle Street Church, 1136 N. LaSalle Dr., Chicago. In lieu of flowers, donations to World Wildlife Federation (
