Russell A. Miller, 94, passed peacefully from this world on October 5, 2017. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on May 26, 1923, to Herman F. and Clara M. Miller. Russ and his brother Herb attended St. Lucy’s school in Chicago and Oak Park and River Forest High School in Oak Park. While serving in the U.S. Navy as a submariner during World War II, Russ married Lorraine Wadham, his childhood sweetheart. After honorable discharge from the Navy, they first lived in Chicago and Elmwood Park, and thereafter took up residence on Lombard Ave. in Oak Park where they remained for 56 years. Russ worked many jobs, including 33 years at International Harvester in Melrose Park, Illinois. In 2011, following Lorraine’s death, Russ took up residence at the Casa San Carlo Retirement Community in Northlake, Illinois, where he made many new friends. He was preceded in death by his son Andrew and is survived by his children; Kathryn Jackson, Patricia (Michael) Davies, Michael (Robin) Miller, Patrick (Muriel) Turley, Jeanne O’Laughlin, Diane (William) McCracken, Louise (Robert) Buford, Paul (Debbie) Miller, he is also survived by his daughter in law Ann Miller (wife of Andrew), as well as 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons-in-law Robert Jackson and Raymond McGraw. Russ was widely known as an avid collector and recycler of other peoples’ treasures and all-around handyman. Visitation Friday November 3, 2017 from 9 a.m. until time of Mass 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Villa Scalabrini, 480 N. Wolf Road, Northlake, IL. Private interment Irving Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to P.A.W.S. Chicago (pawschicago.org) are appreciated.
