Obituary for Sandra Morrow

Sandi was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 2, 1955. She attended Westlake High School and received a bachelor of science in Interior Design from the University of Cincinnati. On the first day of her freshman year she met Jim while playing touch football. They would fall in love and eventually move to Chicago after graduation to begin their life together. They lived in the city for 6 years, skipping work to attend daytime Cubs games, killing time in the showrooms at the merchandise mart, and generally enjoying the early years of their careers. On July 26th, 1980, Sandi and Jim were married in Westlake and celebrated their union with their families and friends. In the excitement and anticipation of their first child in 1986, Sandi and Jim moved to their first home in Oak Park. Shortly after the birth of her first child, Alexandra, Sandi decided to take a hiatus from working in the big city to focus on her family. Sandi made sure to involve herself in every aspect of the girls’ upbringing and volunteered in countless organizations in the Oak Park community: participating in the school PTOs, giving tours through the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, and leading 3 Girl Scout troupes simultaneously (and yes, always the cookie mom). Sandi worked tirelessly to make sure her daughters grew up in a world filled with love, compassion, and opportunity, and the positive effects of these efforts spread well beyond her daughters into the larger Oak Park community. Many years later, Sandi rejoined the workforce and continued to expand her circle of friends. Among the countless fond memories we have of Sandi, we can all agree her love for travel and family stands out above the rest. Her and her family’s dedication to visit each of the 50 United States drove a 16 year vacation streak that was only interrupted by trips out of the country. When she wasn’t plotting ways to travel around the world, Sandi loved to engage with different forms of art, go antique shopping, rescue dogs and capture the perfect sunset picture. Throughout her battle with amyloidosis, Sandi’s strength never faltered. She bravely faced each challenge that was thrown at her with her family by her side. She was, and is, a source of inspiration to us all. We are so thankful for being part of a life well-lived, and we know so many others are as well. Sandi truly made the world a better place, and she will be missed greatly. She was the beloved wife of James D. Morrow; loving mother of Alexandra (Tyler) Krucas, Jessica and Samantha Morrow; devoted daughter of Sophie and the late Robert Paul and daughter-in law of Elizabeth and the late James Morrow; dear sister of Roberta Paul, Linda (Paul Bingle) Paul and Dana (Heidi) Paul and sister in law of Thomas (Tami), Nick (Diane) and Anthony Morrow and Pauline (Rodney) Bullock and Annemarie (Chad) Irons; fond aunt, cousin and friend of many. A Funeral Mass in Sandi’s memory will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Giles Church, 1045 Columbian Ave., Oak Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity are appreciated.
