Obituary for Stephen A. Smith

Stephen A. Smith, age 40, of Elmwood Park; beloved son of Kathleen "Kathy" and the late John Smith; loving brother of Christopher (Lucy) Smith, passed into eternal life on April 18, 2012, and met his glorious God and Savior. He died suddenly of a stroke. His early years included all of the childhood sports at St. Luke School in River Forest where he also served as an Altar Server. While at Oak Park River Forest High School, he played football and water polo. He was a goalie on the Water Polo team which was truly his favorite sport. While at Loras College, he excelled in Varsity Swimming. During this time frame, he participated in many Triathlons; always aspiring one day to do the Iron man in Hawaii. He attended Arizona State University in Tempe as a Business Major for two years. Returning to the Chicago land area and DePaul University, he graduated with a degree in Business and Commerce. From his junior high years, he discovered an interest that would stay with him his whole life, The Stock Market. Beginning with his class at grade school under the tutelage of Mr. Weber, Steve followed the Market and convinced his Dad to invest in Disney. That was the beginning of his career and his more recent aspiration to be a Commodities Advisor and one day begin his own business. After his father's death and near what would come to be the end of his life, his goal was to put God first. He accomplished that goal. Memorial visitation Thursday, April 26th from 9:15 a.m. until time of Mass 10:15 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 528 Lathrop Av., River Forest. Interment private. Please omit flowers.
