Obituary for Wayne R. Banta

Wayne R. Banta, long time resident of Oak Park has passed away leaving a lifetime of memories and community service to its residents. Wayne began his career with the Oak Park Police Department in 1977. He was a detective for the department and also worked as a Financial Crimes Investigator. He was again promoted to the positions of Patrol Sergeant and Detective Sergeant. Wayne retired as a Commander after thirty years of dedicated service to our township. He graduated with honors from DePaul University, Chicago, and was first in class during his initial police training. He received the Ervin H. Warren Award for Excellence as a recruit police officer, and continued to receive numerous department citations and letters of appreciation throughout his career. He will be very fondly remembered by his loved ones, friends and fellow officers. He is survived by his loving wife Valerie nee Canavan, his beloved sister Laverne (Andriolo), cherished nephews Michael and Joel, and many other adoring nieces and nephews. He has been preceded in death by his parents the late Irene and Wayne Banta, and his first wife the late Patricia Banta (nee Quirk). Visitation will be held Friday 3-9 p.m.at Drechsler, Brown, & Williams, 203 S. Marion Street, Oak Park, Illinois. Interment private.
