William C. Krebs, age 96, a former longtime resident of Oak Park passed away on April 9, 2017 at Sun view Health and Rehabilitation Center in Youngtown, AZ. Mr. Krebs was born in Chicago on July 10, 1920 to the late Charles and Clara nee Johnson Krebs. He graduated from the University of Chicago. During WW II while getting a medical evaluation for the Army it was discovered that he had tuberculosis. He was bed ridden for two years and “cured by faith” he survived. They started dating in 1963 and were married on November 14, 1964 in the Olympia Fields Methodist Church in Olympia Fields, IL. It was the first wedding to take place in that church. He was a resident of Chicago from birth to the 1940’s before moving to Oak Park where he lived with his wife until 1992. William and Sibyl moved to Sun City West, Arizona where he lived until his death. He was a published author of four books, his most recent was titled “Dream World, Tales of American Life in the 20th Century”, was published by Outskirts Press in 2015. His loves, were his wife of 53 years, Sibyl, roses (an award winning gardener), writing novels, Broadway Musicals (he wrote his own musical for their 40th wedding anniversary), travel and caring for his uncle Charlie and Sibyl’s mother Rebecca Ramsey Fleming. He was a lifelong Episcopalian. A visitation will be held on Monday April 17, 2017 from 9 a.m. until time of service 11 a.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, the Rev. Peter Campbell from Christ Episcopal Church in River Forest, IL officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Chicago.
