Obituary for Wilma Jane Evans

Wilma Jane Evans, 92, passed away on January 24, 2020 at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois. A Celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m.on Tuesday, January 28th at First Presbyterian Church of River Forest, 7551 Quick Ave., River Forest.

Wilma was born on a farm near Fredericktown, Ohio. She attended a one-room school for 3 years before entering Fredericktown Grade and High Schools where she graduated in 1945. She attended Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana, where she majored in business. She worked as a private secretary and as a floral designer.

She was married to Lt. Charles R. Evans, U.S. Navy in 1951. He was in the home appliance business and the lived in Norfolk, Va., Mansfield, Manitowoc, Wisc., Troy, Ohio, and Stevensville, Mi. After his death, Wilma moved to Holley Court retirement home in 2007. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of River Forest and PEO Sisterhood. Her hobbies were gardening, floral designing, bridge, Scrabble, and reading. She was very proud of her 5 children and 7 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Evans, and her parents. Surviving are son Mark (Rebecca) of Portland, Oregon; son Robert and daughter Giselle of Forestville, California; daughter Margaret of Portland, Oregon; daughter Nancy Bell (Gordon) and Marjory, Evan, and Adam of Oak Park, Illinois; and Dr. John Evans (Karla) and Jake, Logan, and Aria of Glenview, Illinois. She was loved very much by her children and anyone that knew her.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of River Forest or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
